Latin art-Imaginas-Anna Maria Batistozzi

Anna’s artwork here is representative of many Latin American art works. It is called imagina. It seems to have Latin American symbolism and is painted in a contemporary style. There are many colours and movements in the painting. It seems that the figures and backgrounds almost dances off the canvas. The colours are in light shades on a dark background, which goes far to explain why Latin American Art is used so frequently in American culture and media, through marketing and even cd printing.

Having only seen the artwork and not being able to make sense of the page above that is in a language other than english describing Anna’s work and background as an artist my original observations as an art admirer will have to suffice.

The Latin American elements in this artwork seem to me to be the figures that are clearly shown. These seem to me to be reminiscent of figures well known in south American culture usually represented on totem poles, carved in wood and sometimes painting, although often they are not. The figures could be described as gargoyles.

Artwork within Latin American and even African cultures tended to have a purpose. It was not for its own sake. Objects and images were for a purpose, usually used for ceremonies. Many works were joint efforts of the community.

As Latin American art stems form such a history these represented gargoyle figures that seem to be dancing in the night could be alluding so some historical ritual. However, even on there own for visual aesthetics the painting is lovely to see with all its movement, colour and life, depicting elements of a proud strong culture that celebrates, dance, music, and costume such as the well known Latin American music and dance festivals that attracts many tourists as well as many locals.
