Perfect present
I may moan about my boyfriend most of the time – how he always leaves the toilet seat up, spends too much time and money in the pub with his mates and would rather watch football than talk to his loving and devoted girlfriend – but every now and then he does something so spectacularly wonderful and sweet that I forgive him all his faults in one fell swoop.
It was my birthday last week, and he’d been dropping hints for ages that he’d bought me some new electronic gadget. Great, I thought, another present for me that is really meant to be for him. Come the morning of my birthday he handed me a large box-shaped present. Inside was a smaller box-shaped present and inside that was one of the most gorgeous pieces of contemporary designer jewellery I have ever seen!
Turns out he’d been searching online for weeks to find a designer that creates Latin American-inspired jewellery, and had finally found a lady based in Brazil, but who has a business partner in London. Luckily for him, they also do mail order, or it would have cost him even more money to travel down to London to pick me out something nice! As it is, he wouldn’t tell me how much it cost, but it was the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given me. Turns out he was paying attention all those hours I spent going on and on about how much I love Latin American culture and how their art is so beautiful. Of course, the problem he has created for himself now is that he has to live up to this high standard every time he buys me a gift…
